How to Convert MOV to MP4 Without Installing Software
iPhone and Mac videos come as MOV. Here is how to convert them to widely compatible MP4 in your browser, and when you actually need to.
MOV is Apple's container format. It plays fine on iPhones and Macs, but some websites, editors and Android or Windows apps handle MP4 more reliably. Converting is quick and you don't need to install anything.
Do you need to convert?
Often not. Most social platforms accept MOV. Convert when an upload form rejects the file, when an app can't open it, or when you want a smaller, more compatible file.
Steps
- Open the Video Converter and drop your .mov file.
- Choose MP4 (H.264) as the output.
- Press convert, then download the MP4.
The conversion runs in your browser using FFmpeg, so the video is not uploaded. Expect roughly the length of the clip as processing time on a laptop.
If the file is still too big
iPhone videos are often high-bitrate. After converting, run the file through the Video Compressor and set a maximum height of 1080p or 720p.
